15, 16 & 17 February

Ok, so I know that we are many weeks on from this date, but I promised a post and so here it is!

On a lovely warm (ok very hot) weekend in South Australia I headed down to Goolwa (near Victor Harbor) where Phil was in the midst of 3 weeks of Year 8 camps. Phil was spending the weekend at Goolwa with his favourite colleagues; Bel, Micha, Mem and Chris!

I decided to take the scenic route to Goolwa ;o) but Ruby and I eventually arrived at the pub in order to get dinner before the kitchen closed. When we arrived back at the campsite later in the evening I was suprised with a lovely bunch of flowers for Valentie's day.

Saturday morning we headed out to the local surf shop where I was decked out in a brand new, full length, made for thermal conditions and very trendy wet suit. I was a little worried about Phil spending so much money on something that may only see water from the distance of the beach carpark, but went along with it anyway.

Much to my suprise, the wet suit really did keep me warm and so I did get it wet! With hired board in tow I followed Phil's instructions for my first surfing lesson. Phil began in the traditional way by getting me started on the sand in order to get a feel for the movements and positions etc. When I displayed a distinct lack of balance on dry land he let me hit the water anyway.

There were very minimal waves, but it was a great start and I managed to find some confidence just being in the water.

The weekend continued with much sand and water and great food (particularly from the bakery). By Sunday afternoon I was wrestling some big waves at Boomer Beach. Whilst I never got close to standing, I did work out that the beach wasn't as bad as I had convinced myself (infact I had a ball) and I even managed to get up on my knees (apparantly a bad, bad habbit that I should never admit to infront of anyone who knows anything about surfing).

Hope you enjoy the pictures (notice Ruby did manage to get up on her feet!).

Love to everyone and thanks to all the handsome young men leaving comments on the blog! ;o) I should update more often and in the words of a famous yellow boy "I can't promise to try, but I'll try to try".
